Oral Controlled Release + NanoCrystal® Technologies Combined

Combining the NanoCrystal^® technology with our Oral Controlled Release Platform, can provide significant benefits for certain drug candidates. Firstly if a drug presents itself as a poorly water soluble candidate, the application of the NanoCrystal^® technology could reduce particle size, improve dissolution rate and enhance oral bioavailability. Applying one of our OCR technology platforms may offer the additional benefits of modified or controlled release properties and allow the drug to be processed into a solid oral dosage form.


Benefits offered by the combined technologies include:

• formulation of controlled-release formulations of poorly soluble drugs
• elimination of  the need to develop alternative forms of the drug (e.g., salts)
• applying poorly water soluble drug candidates, in flexible dosage form
• increasing oral bioavailability and reduce fed fasted variability
• allowing high drug loading
• modified/controlled release forms
• processing to solid oral dosage form

 

Features of the technology:

• can be incorporated into tablets and capsules
• combines two of EDT’s formulation technologies
• release profile can be tailored to optimise the delivery of the drug

The combined delivery system can be presented as a tablet/capsule. By incorporating both technologies the final dosage form can display the characteristics of a number of different conventional dosage forms – immediate release, delayed release or modified release.
