Reducing particle size has been shown to overcome problems associated with poorly water-soluble compounds.

Reducing particle size below the micron level – to the nanometre range offers appreciable advantages to compounds. Since dissolution rate is a function of surface area, a nano-formulation can have better bioavailability than a micronised formulation of the same drug.
